Jumping CactusJumping cactus is the common plant found in Northern Mexico and South-western United Status. The plant normally grows to a height of about 1000 ft. the plant has one low branch trunk and grows at a height of 4 ft with chains of branches at the top resembling a fruit tree. The stem of the tree is green in colour and are very strong tuberculate. The stem of the jumping cactus measures to around 6 to 9 mm long. These plants are usually found in clusters and are very rarely found alone. These plants therefore form beautiful cactus forests. The stem of the plant are light green in colour and posses strong tuberculation. The jumping cactus forest extends to many hectares of land. The main advantage of these plants is that they do not need much caring and maintenance. Therefore, one need not worry about watering of the plant as these can survive without water for a very long period of time. The tree contains many spins on the body of the plant which at times may make the plant more dangerous. Therefore, it is advised that the plant must be approached with extreme care. Even the young branches of the tree are covered with approximately 2-3 cm of spines on them. Once the tree comes of age it slowly turns to grey in colour. The spines grow more and cover the stem. The main reason explaining the presence of spines on is to help them store water for a longer period of time. It is because of this property they possess that the trees are mostly found in the desert areas or more in those areas where there is scarce rainfall. The spines also fall of the trees once the trees become old and therefore, the surface becomes very scale and rough as and when the trees grow old. Some of the jumping cactus may even possess flowers on them which are pink and white in colour. Most times these flowers are displayed on the tip of the joint tip of the trees and bloom during the mid-summer season. The flowers present on these plants are green in colours which are pear shaped and some may be even complete round. The fruits may even at times contain few spines on them. The flowers are mostly observed in hanging chains and due to these the plants are commonly known as "hanging chain cholla". However, the name jumping cactus comes from the expression of the stem which keeps on bumping on to each other. This gives a person an impression that the stem might just jump on to the person.
The grounds where the plants are found are mostly covered with dead spines and stems that have fallen from the main plant. Due to the spines attached on the dead stems they might be attached to the animals and therefore they are dispersed of to distances. The fruits on the plants are mostly eaten by desert animals for the fact that they are rich in water content. Some of the other popular names of the plant are cholla brincadora, chain fruit cholla and velas de coyote. Auction: Megapack Easter / Christmas Cactus Cuttings / plant
